The Rivers of Hope project is an initiative of the UK River Rights Network. It will scale-up and support the adoption of Rights for Rivers approaches by communities across the UK.
The river of hope project is organizing a series of engaging workshops with communities, catchment partnerships and councils on rights for rivers to enable them to begin to reconnect with their river and explore the potential of implementing a rights of river approach for it. If you would like to organise one of these workshops, please contact the rivers of hope team:

Our undertaking: To inspire and support communities and decision-makers to recognise and uphold the rights of rivers in the UK. We will do this by:
Raising awareness – Inform communities and stakeholders on the concept of Rights for Rivers and how it can help their river.
Showcasing solutions – Highlight practical methods such as Charters of Rights for Rivers, Nature Guardians, and more ecocentric governance models.
Reconnecting communities to their rivers and encouraging a renewed sense of stewardship and care in communities for their local river.
Inspiring communities – Explore with communities the opportunities and challenges for developing a Rights for Rivers approach for their own river.
Grow and strengthen the movement – Support communities and other stakeholders to develop, endorse and champion the rights of their own river.
Project lead: Josh Levene is a global advocate for Rights of Nature. He’s worked with disenfranchised river-based communities around the world for over twenty-five years. As director of Love Our Ouse he helped develop the first Charter of Rights for a UK river to be recognised and supported by a council.
