The River Rights Network

The River Rights Network is a collaboration between river groups, campaigners, activists, CICs and Co-ops across the UK. We are unified by a desire to see the rights of rivers become a reality in the UK.

The River Rights Network is currently supported by a AHRC Curiosity grant. The grant will support the network through funding four events, each hosted by one of our members, though which the network can develop.

The "A Meeting of Rivers" workshops bring together representatives from river groups across the UK, to work together to learn from each other, share best practice, and discuss the practicalities of river rights. The network is made up of around twenty river groups from across the UK.

Our first event - hosted by Friends of the River Cam - was held at Cambridge in September, 2024. The main theme of the workshop was rights. You can read more about that event here.

We were proud members of the March for Clean Water in November, 2024.

Our second event - hosted by OPUS Independents - was held in Sheffield in April, 2025. The main theme of the workshop was representation.

If you would like to be involved with future events, or are a river group who would like to join the network, please contact us using the button below.
